In January 2023, Emma Carrington’s world changed forever when her beloved daughter, Lauren, tragically passed away after suffering a heart attack at home. Lauren was just 29 years old and leaves behind a young daughter who was the light of her life. With no warning and no opportunity to intervene, Lauren’s sudden death left her family, friends, and the wider community heartbroken.
Determined that her daughter’s life would be remembered for more than the tragedy of her passing, Emma chose to transform her grief into something meaningful. Alongside friends and family, she became part of the AEDdonate community, raising an incredible £12,600 in Lauren’s memory, funds dedicated to saving lives and helping to protect others from the heartbreak they had endured.
Inspired by Lauren’s fun-loving spirit and her love of spending time with those closest to her, Emma began organising community events to celebrate her daughter’s life while raising vital funds for defibrillators across the Wolverhampton area. These events have brought people together in powerful ways, turning remembrance into positive action.
Emma wanted to honour Lauren in ways that truly reflected who she was, joyful, social, and full of life. Fundraising events have included A Cobb and a Pint at a local pub, a raffle and children’s disco featuring Poppy the Troll, which raised over £2,000 in just a few hours, as well as a sponsored walk and wheelchair push supported by local groups. Plans are already underway to fund additional defibrillators in the coming years.
In just 12 months, the fundraising efforts have helped to fund seven community defibrillators, each bearing a plaque in Lauren’s honour. The tribute reads:
Heaven gained the most beautiful angel
Lauren Smith
You are the sunshine, rainbows, moon and stars.
Sending kisses to the sky mommy.
Have you caught them yet?
Not all heroes wear capes.
Lovingly donated by family, friends, and the public
Keep shining bright, our Prinny
Speaking bravely about the loss of both her daughter and her best friend, Emma has found strength in staying active and engaged within the community. Through shared memories, laughter, and collective purpose, she continues to channel her grief into something that will save lives.
Emma’s hope is that Lauren’s lifesaving legacy will help prevent other families from experiencing the same devastating loss, ensuring that access to defibrillators gives others the chance Lauren never had.
She has expressed her heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported the fundraising efforts so far and remains determined to continue raising awareness and funds for AEDdonate. Through love, resilience, and community spirit, Lauren’s memory lives on, not only in hearts, but in lifesaving action
