The Lanes Heartbeat – Defibrillator Maintenance & Upkeep Fund

The Lanes Heartbeat, formed by neighbours of Mickering Lane and Sandy Lane in Aughton, is partnering with AEDdonate to raise funds for the ongoing upkeep and essential maintenance of the public access defibrillator installed on the exterior wall of No. 24 Mickering Lane.

This life-saving device is available to the local community and anyone passing through the area in the event of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). To ensure it remains fully operational 24/7, we rely on continued support to cover regular maintenance, replacement parts, consumables, and long-term upkeep.

Why Ongoing Maintenance Matters

Mickering Lane and Sandy Lane are popular walking and cycling routes, used daily by residents, dog walkers, runners, and cyclists exploring the countryside around Aughton.

In an emergency, every second counts. While having a defibrillator in place is vital, it is equally important that the device is always ready to use, with a functioning cabinet, up‑to‑date pads and batteries, and regular checks.

Each year in the UK, over 30,000 people suffer a sudden cardiac arrest outside of a hospital. Survival rates are low, with fewer than 1 in 10 people surviving.

In a sudden cardiac arrest, every second counts. Without immediate CPR and defibrillation, survival chances decrease by around 10% per minute. Early CPR and access to a defibrillator can significantly improve survival chances.

However, public access defibrillators are used in only around 9% of cases, highlighting the urgent need to make these life-saving devices more accessible in our communities.

Ensuring the defibrillator at The Lanes is properly maintained helps protect our community and could make the difference between life and death before emergency services arrive.

How Your Support Helps

Funds raised will go directly toward:

  • Replacement pads and batteries (which have expiry dates)
  • Regular servicing and safety checks
  • Cabinet maintenance and repairs
  • Ongoing support from AEDdonate
  • Ensuring 24/7 readiness for the community

This campaign does not replace emergency services—it ensures that when an emergency happens, lifesaving help is available instantly while an ambulance is on its way.

How You Can Support the Campaign

Your contribution will help keep this vital community device in perfect working order. You can support by:

💛 Making a donation to the maintenance fund
🎭 Hosting a community fundraising event
