We are a Church of England church located in the heart of the Glyndon Estate in Plumstead in south east London.  As well as Sunday services, we run many different community activities for people of all ages.  These include a youth club, warm space, junior choir, adult choir, plus we have an adult wellbeing programme including CRAFTernoons and Afrobeats dance classes.  We serve our community by providing a food bank, as well as regular events such as Messy Church, Fundays and sports activities.  Please have a look at our website www.stjohnsplumstead.org.uk for further details.

Our churchwarden Sue passed away unexpectedly in February 2026.  Sue was a member of St John’s Church for more than two decades.  Sue cared a lot for the local community and was working on a number of projects.  We are fundraising to install a defibrillator and bleed kit at St John’s Church, in Sue’s memory.

Thank you so much for your support.

Why a Defibrillator is So Important

Each year in the UK, over 30,000 people suffer a sudden cardiac arrest outside of a hospital. Survival rates are low, with fewer than 1 in 10 people surviving.

In a sudden cardiac arrest, every second counts. Without immediate CPR and defibrillation, survival chances decrease by around 10% per minute. Early CPR and access to a defibrillator can significantly improve survival chances.

However, public access defibrillators are used in only around 9% of cases, highlighting the urgent need to make these life-saving devices more accessible in our communities.

How a Defibrillator Will Help the community

Once installed, the defibrillator will be registered with the local ambulance trust and available for the public to use 24/7.

This doesn’t replace emergency services. Instead, it provides immediate, potentially life-saving intervention while the ambulance is enroute. The quicker the shock is delivered, the greater the chance of survival.
