The Ramgarhia Sabha, in conjunction with Aisha Masjid & Islamic Centre Reading wprking in partnership with AEDdonate and Jeena’s Save A Soul initiative, are committed to enhancing community health and safety by installing a defibrillator and providing training on its use. This initiative aims to empower community members with the skills necessary to respond effectively to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), ultimately increasing survival rates in emergency situations.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a leading cause of death in the UK, claiming approximately 30,000 lives annually, with 620 of these being individuals under the age of 35. Additionally, around 270 of these deaths occur in children within school settings. The critical window for administering defibrillation is within the first three minutes of an SCA, where survival rates can increase by over 80% if treatment begins.
Research indicates that minority communities are disproportionately affected by heart-related conditions:
Minority communities are twice as likely to develop a heart related condition.
Ethnic minority patients with heart failure face a 36% higher risk of death compared to their white counterparts.
Importance of the Initiative
Installing a community defibrillator ensures immediate access to life-saving equipment while waiting for emergency services. The defibrillator will be registered with the local ambulance trust, allowing for rapid deployment in emergencies. This initiative is not a substitute for ambulance services, but rather a means to initiate patient treatment as quickly as possible.
Jeena will deliver training in usage of using AED’s in community languages, to educate and empower communities to confidently use the AED’s to save lives. The funds raised will be used to provide training for up to 200 community members and to cover the cost of all necessary training materials.
Call to Action
We invite community members, local businesses, and community/faith organisations to support this initiative through donations, participation in training sessions, and spreading awareness. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in our community.
If you are interested in becoming a Community Champion yourself or are aware of any places which may benefit from having public access to a defibrillator then please contact us on 01785 472224 or email us on info@aeddonate.org.uk. We will help you manage the campaign from start to finish, providing fundraising materials, a page just like this one and in some cases helping you to help your community on its way to becoming heart safe.
*Funding is dependent on your location as to what we have available from our funding partners. Funding changes on a daily basis, call us to find out more.
