Overwatch Community Response Defibrillator Campaign

Overwatch Community Response (OCR) is partnering with AEDdonate to raise funds for a public access defibrillator to support their community safety operations.

Overwatch Community Response is a trained, qualified, and uniformed community-based volunteer organisation dedicated to supporting and safeguarding the communities they serve. Through high-visibility patrols, proactive engagement, and working alongside local partners, OCR provides reassurance to residents and helps improve community safety.

This life-saving defibrillator will support OCR volunteers while they are out on patrol and ensure that rapid emergency assistance can be provided in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).

Why a Defibrillator for Overwatch Community Response is Important

Each year in the UK, more than 30,000 people suffer a sudden cardiac arrest outside of hospital. Tragically, 620 of these are under the age of 35, and 270 are children.

Overwatch volunteers regularly patrol communities, rural areas, and public spaces wearing high-visibility PPE to deter criminal activity and provide a reassuring presence to the public. Their specially marked vehicles are equipped with emergency lights and reflective markings, and volunteers are trained to respond to roadside emergencies such as road traffic collisions and breakdowns.

Having a defibrillator available during patrols could provide immediate life-saving support while emergency services are on their way.

When a defibrillator is used within the first 3 minutes of a cardiac arrest, survival chances can increase to over 80%.

How the Defibrillator Will Help the Community

The defibrillator will support Overwatch Community Response volunteers while they are patrolling communities and responding to incidents.

OCR works alongside local parishes, landowners, businesses, and emergency services in a support and intelligence-gathering role. Their visible presence helps deter crime and improve public safety.

Alongside patrols, OCR also works with the community by:

• Supporting roadside incidents and breakdowns

• Conducting high-visibility patrols in rural and community areas

• Providing school talks on safety topics, including dog safety, staying safe in public, and first aid

• Operating specialist K9 units that assist with tracking and act as a visible deterrent

Having access to a defibrillator will further strengthen their ability to protect and support the community when it matters most.
