Having defibrillators available and accessible to the general public is vital in all public areas however even more necessary in places such as Bournemouth Beach where getting ambulance access can be restricted. For me and my family, this was evident where my Dad suffered a health issue down at Bournemouth Beach in August where an ambulance was called and a defibrillator was requested. Due to Bournemouth beach being a popular destination in the summertime for tourists, it took the ambulance a long time to reach him between Bournemouth and Boscombe Pier, and just as long for the defibrillator to be accessed from the Beach Office.

Luckily for me and my family, my dad safely made it to Bournemouth Hospital however this equipment could be life-saving for somebody in similar circumstances.

AE donate suggest that a defibrillator should be accessible to the public every 300 to 500 m however at the moment this is not the case down at Bournemouth Beach. BCP council have stated there are 12 defibrillators along the whole of the beachfront which means there are some areas where defibrillator is too far away to be within the 3 to 5 minute window where it will be most effective and vital that treatment is received.

Therefore, I am fundraising for another defibrillator to be publicly accessible 24 hours a day between Bournemouth and Boscombe Pier, with the support of AE Donate.

It’s become evidence to me and my family over the last couple of months that the use of defibrillator may be necessary to any single one of us. Circumstances like ours may occur in places and situations where you may least expect it and it is vital that we give everyone the best possible chance of survival.  Any donations to this potentially life-saving equipment would be so gratefully received.
