When Matilda’s Grandpa collapsed at the gym in 2018, it was a defibrillator that helped save his life. That moment left a lasting impression – even on Matilda, who was just a toddler at the time.
Fast forward five years, and six-year-old Matilda decided to turn her gratitude into action.
Setting out with a modest goal of raising £50 for more public access defibrillators, Matilda launched her own fundraising challenge in support of AEDdonate. But what happened next far exceeded anyone’s expectations.
Climbing Pen-y-Ghent, one of the iconic Yorkshire Three Peaks, Matilda captured hearts across the country. Her JustGiving page spread quickly, and her message of compassion, bravery, and community spirit resonated deeply – eventually raising £540.
So inspired by her passion, we invited Matilda for a VIP tour of AEDdonate HQ.
During her visit, she got hands-on with a defibrillator, learned how they work, and asked brilliant questions about what happens during a cardiac emergency. Her curiosity and enthusiasm were beyond impressive.
Before leaving, we surprised her with a special hamper to say thank you for being such a star – and a true young ambassador for our cause.
Your courage, commitment, and heart are what community heroes are made of.
