Autism Together is working alongside AEDdonate to have a defibrillator installed at its Port Sunlight River Park – an item which could save the lives of autistic people working at the park, the charity’s staff, volunteers, supporters or the general public who enjoy the site daily.
30,000 people die each year from out of hospital Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), 620 of these are people under the age of 35 and 270 of these deaths happen to children within schools. If defibrillation takes place within the first three minutes of a SCA, the patient’s chances of survival increase by upwards of 80%.
Having the defibrillator installed means that it can be deployed by the local ambulance trust in a bid to give the patient the all-important shock to the heart prior to the ambulance arrival. The defibrillator is by no means a replacement to the ambulance service, it just allows patient treatment to commence immediately.
If you can help by donating, supporting with a fundraising event, or talking on a virtual sponsored challenge then please contact us and we can inform her that you would like to help or indeed make direct contact.
If you are interested in becoming a Community Champion yourself or are aware of any places which may benefit from having public access to a defibrillator then please contact us on 01785 472224 or email us on info@aeddonate.org.uk. We will help you manage the campaign from start to finish, providing fundraising materials, a page just like this one and in some cases funding* helping you to help your community on its way to becoming heart safe.
*funding is dependent on your location as to what we have available from our funding partners. Funding changes on a daily basis to call us to find out more.

About Port Sunlight River Park
Port Sunlight River Park has been transformed from a closed landfill site to a 28-hectare park providing a popular community space with an array of walkways, wildlife, wildflowers and wetlands area. It’s a place for both the public and the people we support to enjoy the great outdoors.
The park, which opened in 2014, provides visitors with a scenic waterfront and a variety of walks, offering stunning views across Merseyside to Liverpool’s iconic waterfront. A section of wetland to the north of the site, along with River Mersey mud flats is already an important site for large populations of water birds and is a site of special protection. In 2019 a riverside Visitor’s Centre and Café was opened.
The Park is accessed by thousands every year including local community groups, school visits, activities run by Autism Together for the people we support, Friends of the River Park, Volunteers and so much more – having an external defibrillator fitted on our Heritage Centre site will provide life-saving treatment for those great at need in this semi-rural location on the river front.
