Fourth defibrillator placed in memory of Neil

9th January 2020 - Rachel Richards

A new defibrillator has been installed at Hednesford Park. The defib has been installed on the external wall of the pavilion and is available 24/7. The funds for this machine were raised by the ‘Remembering Neil’ campaign headed up by Amy Windle, Neils partner.

“Neil was a BFG in every sense and had an even bigger heart. He would go out of his way to be there for and to help others. His sudden death at just 35 years old was cruel and is still incomprehensible to us all. Being able to place these defibrillators in the local community in his memory means his spirit lives on; he will always be here to help others. His family and I can take some comfort from the positive outcome of our heartbreak and thank AEDdonate and all those that continue to support our fundraising efforts for making this possible, Amy”

Amy has campaigned along with Neil’s family and friends to raise awareness and help to fundraise for more defibrillators in the Hednesford area. To date, 4 defibrillators have been placed in Neil’s memory with number 5 planned for the future. The defibrillators are registered with the ambulance service and are available 24/7. Anyone needing access to the machine should call 999 and state their location, the call taker will then offer advice and give the access code whilst ensuring an ambulance is en route to the patient. If a defibrillator and CPR is used within the first 3-5 minutes of collapse the patients chance of survival can increase from 6% to 74 %.

Responsible for around 100,000 deaths in the UK every year, sudden cardiac arrest is one of the country’s biggest killers but quick and easy access to a defibrillator can significantly increase the chances of survival.

A defibrillator is a device that gives a high-energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who is in cardiac arrest. Providing an essential and potentially life-saving stage in the treatment of anyone suffering a Cardiac Arrest. Defibrillators are easy to operate with step-by-step instructions for members of the community to use in an emergency.

Jamie Richards CEO of AEDdonate “The dedication and determination shown by Amy and Neil’s family and friends are achieving great things in the local community and will undoubtedly go on to save lives. If anyone would like to support Amy and her mission please get in touch and we can provide you with more information on how to do this”

Thank you to Amy and her supporters for allowing us to work with you.
