Be Like Matilda

31st July 2023 - Rob Stanway

Six-year-old superhero Matilda has raised £540 towards defibrillators for her community after one of the live-saving devices saved her Grandpa in a gym in 2018.

What initially started as a modest goal of £50 soon turned into a remarkable achievement, as Matilda’s relentless fundraising efforts surpassed all expectations, amassing an astonishing £540 in donations.

Matilda’s inspiring story began to unfold with the young girl’s intention to climb Pen-y-Ghent, one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, in support of AEDdonate in our efforts to make AEDs readily available in as many public spaces as possible, ensuring that immediate life-saving measures can be taken in the event of cardiac emergencies.

The determined Matilda set up her JustGiving fundraising page, appealing to friends, family, and the wider community for support. Her passion and dedication to this cause resonated with many, who were inspired by the sheer determination of a young girl with a mission to make a difference.

Driven by an unwavering curiosity, she expressed a desire to learn more about AEDs and their operation. Impressed with her heroic efforts, we invited Matilda to our office for a VIP tour, demonstrating the proper usage of the devices and imparting vital knowledge that could potentially save lives in emergency situations. Matilda’s eagerness to understand these life-saving tools showcased a maturity well beyond her years. We also presented her with a special hamper to go away with as a token of our appreciation.

Impressed by her determination and inspired by her commitment to raising awareness, Matilda’s school has also embraced the cause. She approached the school, requesting that AEDdonate be invited to educate the students on the importance of AEDs and how to utilise them effectively. Recognising the value of such knowledge, the school readily agreed, understanding that empowering young minds with life-saving skills can have far-reaching benefits for the entire community.

Matilda’s incredible journey serves as a poignant reminder that age should never be a barrier to making a difference in the world. Her remarkable fundraising achievement not only surpassed expectations but also ignited a ripple effect of compassion and communal support. Through her tenacity, Matilda has brought attention to the vital importance of AEDs and inspired others to get involved.

Never underestimate what a determined hero can do – no matter their age or size! It’s an important lesson to everyone that we are never too young (or old!) to get started in caring for our community.

Matilda’s journey highlights the extraordinary potential within each of us, and her dedication to learning about AEDs underscores the importance of education and preparedness in emergencies. As we celebrate her achievements, let us also be inspired to embrace compassion, empower our youth, and work together to create safer, more resilient communities for all.
